Urban exploration

What would you say if you got this call?

Friend: "Hey Logan... you're a photographer right? Rob is too right?"
Me (literally seconds away from getting in the shower...): "Uh... yeah why what's up?"
Friend: "Wanna go explore a 16 story abandoned psych ward, take some pictures, maybe get some cool crap?"
Me (already getting ready to go): "I'll call Rob, we'll be over in a minute"

Day one, we grabbed out equipment, bought some surgical masks and flashlights and hit the road. Getting in wasn't too hard, and once we got to the second floor, light poured in through the window.
The first thing you notice in this place is the paint. Every inch of the wall is covered in paint that hasn't been maintained in 30+ years. Things are falling out of the ceiling, and the tiles on the floor are all smashed up. We took our time, and went through most of the open rooms, checking to see if there was anything left of interest. The place is naturally awesome looking, you can't bring a camera in there without taking an awesome picture.
We moved down to the basement at some point and came across some bio-hazard suits just chilling in a sink. It was pretty neat, but definitely a glove moment haha.
There's graffiti in a lot of parts, most of it isn't any good, but some of it makes for an interesting shot at least. Oh and we got much better masks when we went back again haha.

We made it all the way to the very top of this building. It's not what I expected. I figured there would be a lot of very creepy, destroyed patient's rooms but it's mostly just 400 of the same cubical styled, run down rooms. We found a few things, I even got a gift for my best friend. Not to mention a sweet fallout shelter sign haha. Anyways, this is just a small sampling of the place. I'm turning his little adventure into my final photo project for this quarter, so you'll all get to see the end results eventually. Let me know what you think so far!

Still life

So I got my hands on a full manual, 65mm macro lens. The thing is beautiful. GORGEOUS in fact. I think about 30 seconds went by before I was in the studio shooting with this thing haha. Anyways, we were assigned a still life project to play with lighting. I grabbed a bag of peanut butter m and m's and went on my way.
.

This shot always reminds me of those classic space shots you see of two huge planets orbiting near eachother.

Break project

Over Christmas break we were tasked with shooting our home as if it was our first time there. I don't know, I assume it had something to do with trying to break the mold and looking for originality and creativity in uninspiring places. BUT, I didn't. Couldn't do it. That is, not until my Mother gave me a little inspiration when she told me that the one thing she makes a point of changing every year was the candy on the table. So I said what the hell, and gave it a shot. The series focuses on the candy and little ornaments that were spread out on the table at the time.

Where are you?

In the last three days the temperature has been everything from -9°f to about 50 at one point. So needless to say most people are staying inside for fear of flash blizzards thunderstorms or some crap like that. I've been picking up darts a little bit in my friends room to pass the time; and turns out i'm not that good at darts haha. So for this week's Where Are You, take a look at one of my attempts to learn,

Where are you sunset?

Hey everyone, welcome back. I hope everyone had a good holiday season, and a great New Years; i know I did. ;) Now that I'm back at school it's time to get back to business. This week's Where Are You is coming a little early, but that's because it's actually from last week. New Year's brought with it one of the best sunset's I've seen in months, if not years, and sadly all I had with me was my phone. It doesn't do it justice, but check it out. Hopefully you'll get the gist haha.

The entire sky was on fire with little golden flames for most of the drive; it was amazing. Anyways that's my submission for this week, I look forward to hearing from you guys too. Get out there and ask yourself "Where am I?"!

That time again

Another year's gone by and I'm sitting here eating some holiday fudge, just as it should be. It's been a good year, and I'm really looking forward to the year ahead. I hope everyone else has a very happy holiday full of laughs and good times, and that you might all find something very special waiting for you today. Enjoy the time you have with your families, and make sure not to forget about those who are less fortunate.

Nollaig Shona Duit! Merry Christmas!

Oh and I'd also like to say that yesterday was my best friend and my two year anniversary. Thank you for all the amazing times we've had. Never forget I love you. And cheers to many happy years ahead. =)

Featuring...

We all need to get our inspiration somewhere. For some, music does it, others it's reading. Some people drive, some people sing, some people cook, jump off tall things, run, whatever. I get a lot of my inspiration from other photographers. These guys are the best of the best, and their work keeps me pushing my own forward. So every so often I'm going to post a link to a photographer I like for anyone who would like a good view.

Today's photographer is Eric Gustafson and you can see his work here at: http://www.antilimit.com/

He's an excellent photographer and his style is something like a much more refined and honed version of my own. Wish his own artistic tweaks of course. Either way, check it out; his work is awesome.
